My name is Joey Ortega, and I’ve been an artist since I can remember… From a young age I knew I wanted to be an artist for a living, though I never really knew it would be tattooing that would capture my interest. Most of my time in school was spent learning how to better myself as an artist. Reading books, taking classes, and being creative constantly.

I started tattooing in 2003 and for the most part I’m self-taught. Giving credit where its due, if it wasn’t for a friend giving me a chance I’d never be where I am today. Tattooing has taken me all around the world, and I’m truly thankful to have learned so much from so many talented artists and craftsmen. I’m always striving to become better at my craft. Because of this “perfectionist” mentality that I possess, I’ve progressed to become an award-winning artist. I like to tattoo many different styles. Though my work is deeply rooted in “Traditional” tattooing, I would say that it’s more in depth and stylized…”Neo-Traditional”. Working as a custom artist, I find inspiration from true images, Japanese art, Art nouveau, Mexican folk art and Iconography, anything vintage or antique, and all the other random ideas bouncing around in my head. One of my favorite parts about what I do is working with my customers to create a piece that is uniquely theirs. I’ve met so many interesting people being in this industry.
