Joey Ortega's interest in art began at a young age and has only grown more expansive since. He has been drawing since first he could clutch a pencil and his passion for all forms of art has only expanded with time. With a heavy emphasis placed on art in high school and college he is familiar with the finite details of art theory and principle that have come to set his work apart. Located in Harker Heights, Texas at Kingpin Tattoos he has, at 23, been tattooing for a little over three years and was chiefly self-taught. Although, giving credit where its due, in the past couple of years he is thankful to have been given tips and advice by senior artists in the field to further improve his skill.

With a primary interest in the neo-traditional style he has progressed rapidly to become an award winning tattooer and is now primarily a custom artist. He is influenced by other tattoers but prefers to draw from true images such as photographs or actual objects because he feels this gives his art as well as his tattoos a more realistic feel and greater individual style. Coming into the tattoo industry as a humble artist Joey Ortega will never claim to be the best and will only state modestly that he'll give you a "good tattoo".

In his few spare moments Joey Ortega, being what many would call a 'renaissance man', creates a diversity of artwork ranging from custom cars to metal/hotrod art to painting and drawing. He is ever striving to enhance the individuality of his work and perfect the techniques applied in his tattooing.
